Description

The invention relates to a quick-change steel holder, in particular for automatic lathes or similar machines, which consists of a carrier provided with at least one dovetail web and connectable to the machine, and a U-shaped turning bit holder which receives the turning bit and is displaceable by means of a dovetail groove on the dovetail web of the carrier and lockable thereto by means of a locking member and is known per se. The known quick-change steel holders of this type are very complicated and require a large space so that they cannot be used especially in long lathes or similar machines with a plurality of closely adjacent machining stations. The large space requirement in the known quick-change steel holders arises from the locking member which is installed in the carrier and is usually designed as an adjustable slide and which can be adjusted in the carrier by means of an eccentric or a toothed adjusting drive. For this reason, in the case of long-haul automatic machines or similar machines, almost exclusively normal steel holders are used which are fixedly connected to the machine. For reabrasion of the turning chisels, the turning chisel must be released from the steel holder. This is laborious and requires readjustment when the turning bit is replaced. The setup times during the changing or re-grinding of the turning chisels are therefore very long, which adversely affects the economics of the machine.
