(57) Abstract

A shelf support apparatus for use with corner lock joints having a prong extending into a tube for locking therein. The shelf support has a sleeve slidably mounted on the prong between the end of the tube and the base of the corner lock joint and a projection extending from the sleeve to form a shoulder, which shoulder may support elongated tubular members for supporting shelves, table tops or similar structural members for use in modular construction, furniture, or the like.

Claims (5)

  1. A sleeve and shelf support for use with a corner lock joint having a base portion, with a prong extending therefrom and a tube housing said prong in fixed relationship for use in a modular construction frame comprising a sleeve portion slidably mounted on said prong between the end of said tube on said prong and the base of said lock joint so as to be held in position by said fixed tube; a projection extending from said sleeve so as to form a shoulder to support a shelf to be associated with said frame, and lift supports for use in providing additional support for a shelf, said lift supports being elongated members supported by said sleeve shoulder projection, and the end of said lift supports being mitered to facilitate the interengagement thereof so as to provide additional shelf support on substantially the entire perimeter of the frame.
  2. The invention in accordance with claim 1 wherein said sleeve is rectangular.
  3. The invention in accordance with claim 1 wherein said sleeve is tubular, at least one tooth extending from the inner surface of said sleeve, each tooth adapted to be received by an accommodating indentation in the surface of said prong when said sleeve is positioned on said prong to facilitate the retention of said sleeve in a predetermined position therein when a member is supported by the projection of said sleeve.
  4. A modular construction frame comprising a plurality of corner lock joints each having a base portion and at least one prong extending therefrom, a plurality of tubes each having at least one open end to slidably receive one said prong therein and locking means for locking each said prong to one said tube when inserted in position in said tube; a plurality of sleeves each slidably mounted on predetermined prongs between the end of one said tube and one base portion of a corner lock joint so that when each said predetermined prong is locked to one said tube said sleeve will be locked in position along with said tube, and a projection extending from each said sleeve so as to form a shoulder and lift supports positioned on said projection, said lift supports being elongated members adapted for engaging a plurality of said projections so as to provide additional shelf support along the perimeter of said frame; thereby providing a readily assemblable and collapsible modular construction frame.
  5. The invention in accordance with claim 4 wherein lift supports have mitered ends to facilitate the interengagement of said lift supports to each other For additional support along substantially the entire perimeter of the frame.
