A peer-to-peer (P2P) file distribution protocol where users connect directly to share and download files. Instead of downloading a file from a single source, participants, known as peers, download small pieces of the file from multiple other users and upload pieces they already have. A small metadata file with a .torrent extension or a magnet link is required to initiate the download and locate other peers in the swarm.
