Trackball

A pointing device consisting of a stationary base with a protruding ball that a user rotates to control a cursor on a screen. Unlike a mouse, the device itself remains fixed while the user manipulates the ball with their fingers or palm. Trackballs are often preferred in environments with limited desk space or for users with certain ergonomic needs.
