1. Process of exchanging public keys (and other information) in order to establish secure communications.
2. A (pair-wise) key-establishment procedure whereby one party (i.e., the sender) selects a value for the secret keying material and then securely distributes the value to another party (i.e., the receiver). Contrast with key agreement.
