Open storage

Any storage of classified national security information outside of General Services Administration-approved storage containers. This includes classified information that is resident on information systems media and outside of an approved storage container, regardless of whether or not that media is in use (i.e., unattended operations). Open storage of classified cryptographic material and equipment must be done within an approved COMSEC facility, vault, or secure room when authorized personnel are not present.
