stream cipher

Term · Cybersecurity · MLC-T-CYB-004096

Sequence of symbols (or their electrical or mechanical equivalents) produced in a machine or auto-manual cryptosystem to combine with plain text to produce cipher text, control transmission security processes, or produce key. Note: Common types of ciphers are stream and block ciphers, which each have unique strengths and weaknesses. Ciphers are often separated by types of keys into asymmetric and symmetric key algorithms.
