Allocations
Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-001099
1. That portion of a receiving water's loading capacity that is attributed to one of its existing or future pollution sources (nonpoint or point) or to natural background sources. (A wasteload allocation [WLA] is that portion of the loading capacity allocated to an existing or future point source, and a load allocation [LA] is that portion allocated to an existing or future nonpoint source or to natural background source. Load allocations are best estimates of the loading, which can range from reasonably accurate estimates to gross allotments, depending on the availability of data and appropriate techniques for predicting loading.)
2. Best estimates of current and future pollutant loads (both nonpoint and point sources) entering a water body. Pollutant load estimates can range from reasonably accurate measurements to gross estimates and the techniques used for predicting specific loads.
