Continuous emission monitoring system

  1. 1. The total equipment necessary for the determination of a gas or particulate matter concentration or emission rate using pollutant analyzer measurements and a conversion equation, graph, or computer program to produce results in units of the applicable emission limitation or standard. CEMS are required under some of the EPA regulations for either continual compliance determinations or determination of exceedances of the standards.

    2. Total equipment that may be required to meet the data acquisition and availability requirements of this subpart, used to sample, condition (if applicable), analyze, and provide a record of emissions.

    3. Equipment required by part 75 of this chapter used to sample, analyze, measure, and provide, by means of readings recorded at least once every 15 minutes (using an automated data acquisition and handling system (DAHS)), a permanent record of SO2, NOX, or CO2 emissions or stack gas volumetric flow rate.The following are the principal types of continuous emission monitoring systems required under part 75 of this chapter. Sections 75.10 through 75.18, and § 75.71(a) of this chapter indicate which type(s) of CEMS is required for specific applications.

    4. Monitoring system for continuously measuring the emissions of a pollutant from an affected facility.

    5. Equipment required under subpart HHH of this part to sample, analyze, measure, and provide, by means of readings recorded at least once every 15 minutes (using an automated data acquisition and handling system (DAHS)), a permanent record of sulfur dioxide emissions, stack gas volumetric flow rate, stack gas moisture content, and oxygen or carbon dioxide concentration (as applicable), in a manner consistent with part 75 of this chapter. The following systems are the principal types of continuous emission monitoring systems required under subpart HHH of this part:(1) A flow monitoring system, consisting of a stack flow rate monitor and an automated data acquisition and handling system and providing a permanent, continuous record of stack gas volumetric flow rate, in standard cubic feet per hour (scfh);(2) A sulfur dioxide monitoring system, consisting of a SO2 pollutant concentration monitor and an automated data acquisition and handling system and providing a permanent, continuous record of SO2 emissions, in parts per million (ppm);(3) A moisture monitoring system, as defined in § 75.11(b)(2) of this chapter and providing a permanent, continuous record of the stack gas moisture content, in percent H2O;(4) A carbon dioxide monitoring system, consisting of a CO2 pollutant concentration monitor (or an oxygen monitor plus suitable mathematical equations from which the CO2 concentration is derived) and an automated data acquisition and handling system and providing a permanent, continuous record of CO2 emissions, in percent CO2; and(5) An oxygen monitoring system, consisting of an O2 concentration monitor and an automated data acquisition and handling system and providing a permanent, continuous record of O2 in percent O2.

    6. Monitoring system for continuously measuring and recording the emissions of a pollutant from an affected facility.

    7. Total equipment used to sample, condition (if applicable), analyze, and provide a permanent record of emissions.

    8. Monitoring system that continuously measures the emissions of a pollutant from a municipal waste combustion unit.

    9. Equipment required under subpart H of this part to sample, analyze, measure, and provide, by readings taken at least once every 15 minutes of the measured parameters, a permanent record of nitrogen oxides emissions, expressed in tons per hour for nitrogen oxides. The following systems are component parts included, consistent with part 75 of this chapter, in a continuous emission monitoring system: (1) Flow monitor; (2) Nitrogen oxides pollutant concentration monitors; (3) Diluent gas monitor (oxygen or carbon dioxide) when such monitoring is required by subpart H of this part; (4) A continuous moisture monitor when such monitoring is required by subpart H of this part; and (5) An automated data acquisition and handling system.

    10. Monitoring system for continuously measuring and recording the emissions of a pollutant.

    11. Equipment required under subpart HHH of this part to sample, analyze, measure, and provide, by means of readings recorded at least once every 15 minutes (using an automated data acquisition and handling system (DAHS)), a permanent record of sulfur dioxide emissions, stack gas volumetric flow rate, stack gas moisture content, and oxygen or carbon dioxide concentration (as applicable), in a manner consistent with part 75 of this chapter. Equipment required under subpart HHHH of this part to sample, analyze, measure, and provide, by means of readings recorded at least once every 15 minutes (using an automated data acquisition and handling system (DAHS)), a permanent record of nitrogen oxides emissions, stack gas volumetric flow rate, stack gas moisture content, and oxygen or carbon dioxide concentration (as applicable), in a manner consistent with part 75 of this chapter.

    14. Monitoring system for continuously measuring and recording the emissions of a pollutant from an affected facility.[40 CFR 60.51c]Equipment required under this subpart to sample, analyze, measure, and provide, by means of readings recorded at least once every 15 minutes and using an automated data acquisition and handling system (DAHS), a permanent record of NOX emissions, stack gas volumetric flow rate, stack gas moisture content, and O2 or CO2 concentration (as applicable), in a manner consistent with part 75 of this chapter and §§ 97.430 through 97.435. The following systems are the principal types of continuous emission monitoring systems:(1) A flow monitoring system, consisting of a stack flow rate monitor and an automated data acquisition and handling system and providing a permanent, continuous record of stack gas volumetric flow rate, in standard cubic feet per hour (scfh)

  2. A system that directly and continuously measures one or more pollutants exiting a combustion unit.
