Hydrocarbon

Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-013617

  1. 1. A hydrocarbon is an organic compound containing only hydrogen and carbon, often occurring in petroleum, natural gas, and coal.

    2. Chemical compounds that consist entirely of carbon and hydrogen.

    3. An organic compound containing only hydrogen and carbon, often occurring in petroleum, natural gas, and coal.

    4. A compound consisting of carbon and hydrogen. Hydrocarbons include methane, ethane, propane, cyclopropane, butane, and cyclopentane. Although they are flammable, hydrocarbons (HCs) may offer advantages as substitutes to ozone-depleting substances because they have zero ozone depletion potential, low toxicity, and with the exception of methane, have low global warming potentials.

    5. Chemical compounds composed only of carbon and hydrogen.

  2. 1. Chemical compounds that consist entirely of carbon and hydrogen.

    2. Chemicals that consist entirely of hydrogen and carbon. Hydrocarbons contribute to air pollution problems like smog.

    3. A large class of organic compounds containing only carbon and hydrogen, common in petroleum products.

    4. Substances containing only hydrogen and carbon. Fossil fuels are made up of hydrocarbons.

    5. Substances containing only hydrogen and carbon. Fossil fuels are made up of hydrocarbons. Some hydrocarbon compounds are major air pollutants.

    6. Chemical compounds made up entirely of carbon and hydrogen.
