Tailwaters

The channel or stream below a dam, often characterized by waters with low dissolved oxygen. Many nonpoint source pollution problems in reservoirs and dam tailwaters frequently result from sources in the contributing watershed (e.g., sediment, nutrients, metals, and toxics).
