A thin, decorative stripe painted or applied as a decal along the side of a vehicle's body, accentuating its contours. The line runs horizontally, extending from the front fender toward the rear of the car, below the window line. On luxury vehicles, coachlines are meticulously hand-painted by a skilled artisan using a special brush, while on mass-produced cars they are vinyl decals applied during assembly.
