An abbreviation for Handling In Fee, a charge levied by a port, terminal, or warehouse for the service of receiving cargo and moving it into a storage position. This fee covers the labor and equipment costs associated with unloading a truck or railcar and transferring the goods to a designated spot within the facility. The HIF is distinct from a Handling Out Fee (HOF), which is charged for retrieving the cargo from storage and loading it for onward transport.
