Index bureau

An organization that maintains a centralized database of insurance claims information, used by insurers to detect fraud and identify individuals with a history of frequent claims. Insurers report claims data to the bureau, which then makes this information available to other participating insurers. The Medical Information Bureau (MIB) is an example of such an organization in the life and health insurance industry.
