Private equity firm

An investment management company that makes investments directly into private companies or conducts buyouts of public companies, taking them private. These firms raise capital from accredited investors and institutions to form investment funds, which are then used to acquire equity stakes. The firm's objective is to increase the value of its portfolio companies over a period of three to seven years before exiting the investment through a sale or initial public offering.
