Underwriting risk

The risk that an insurer's actual claims and expenses will exceed its collected premiums, leading to an underwriting loss. This risk arises from inaccurate pricing, adverse selection, or unexpected increases in loss frequency or severity. Effective underwriting and diversified portfolios are used to manage this exposure.
