Vehicle identification number (VIN)

A unique 17-character alphanumeric code assigned to every motor vehicle by its manufacturer, serving as its fingerprint. This number identifies the vehicle's make, model, year, manufacturing plant, and other specifications. Insurers use the VIN to verify vehicle details, assess risk, and track claims history for underwriting and claims processing.
