(54) Title
Banana peel extract composition and method for extraction
(57) Abstract

An extract composition derived from the peel of a banana and the method for producing the extract composition. An aqueous solvent is combined with the peel of a banana. If the banana is unripe, a base is also added. The mixture is homogenized and allowed to react at least until a black supernatant appears. The entire slurry is filtered. The resulting extract is used alone or combined with a cream or ointment. Medicinal benefits of the extract include relief from pain, swelling, itching, bruising, wrinkles, and sunburn.

Claims (14)

  1. A method for treating pain, the method comprising: i) obtaining a composition from at least one banana peel, said composition comprising effective amounts of 3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexyl salicylate and elemicin, and ii) topically applying an effective amount of said composition to relieve pain.
  2. A method as recited in claim 1, wherein an effective amount of said composition is applied topically to relieve pain caused by arthritis.
  3. A method as recited in claim 1, wherein an effective amount of said composition is applied topically to relieve pain caused by carpal tunnel syndrome.
  4. A method as recited in claim 1, wherein an effective amount of said composition is applied topically to relieve pain caused by sunburn.
  5. A method for treating inflammation, the method comprising: i) obtaining a composition from at least one banana peel, said composition comprising effective amounts of 3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexyl salicylate and elemicin, and ii) topically applying an effective amount of said composition to reduce inflammation.
  6. A method as recited in claim 5, wherein an effective amount of said composition is applied topically to reduce the inflammation caused by an insect bite.
  7. A method as recited in claim 5, wherein an effective amount of said composition is applied topically to reduce the inflammation of a bruise.
  8. A method for treating itching, the method comprising: i) obtaining a composition from at least one banana peel, said composition comprising effective amounts of 3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexyl salicylate and elemicin, and ii) topically applying an effective amount of said composition to relieve itching.
  9. A method as recited in claim 8, wherein an effective amount of said composition is applied topically to relieve itching caused by an insect bite.
  10. A method as recited in claim 8, wherein an effective amount of said composition is applied topically to relieve itching caused by poison ivy.
  11. A method as recited in claim 8, wherein an effective amount of said composition is applied topically to relieve itching caused by poison oak.
  12. A method for treating smooth muscle tissue, the method comprising: i) obtaining a composition from at least one banana peel, said composition comprising effective amounts of 3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexyl salicylate and elemicin, and ii) applying an effective amount of said composition to relax smooth muscle tissue.
  13. A method as recited in claim 12, wherein an effective amount of said composition is applied internally to said smooth muscle tissue for treating asthma.
  14. A method for preventing sunburn, the method comprising: i) obtaining a composition from at least one banana peel, said composition comprising effective amounts of 3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexyl salicylate and elemicin, and ii) topically applying an effective amount of said composition to prevent sunburn.
