Animal welfare professionals who visit and evaluate animal research facilities to ensure that they are in compliance with the Animal Welfare Act as well as institutional or industry laws. Federal inspection of laboratory animal facilities in the United States is conducted by the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, a USDA agency.
