Redundancy

The duplication of components or functions of a system with the intention of increasing reliability. This includes having backup hardware, software, or data pathways that take over in case of a failure. A common implementation is a Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID), which distributes data across multiple drives to protect against drive failure.
