Term · Computing and IT · MLC-T-CMP-001137
A software-based security device that generates a single-use authentication code for accessing a network or application. Unlike a hardware token, it exists as an application on a general-purpose device like a smartphone, tablet, or personal computer. The application generates a time-based one-time password (TOTP) or a similar credential that changes periodically, for instance every 30 or 60 seconds, to provide a second factor of authentication.
