User ID

A unique identifier assigned to a specific user account within a computer system, application, or network. This identifier, often a numerical value or a specific string, is used by the system for authentication, authorization, and accounting purposes. In Unix-like operating systems, the User Identifier (UID) is an integer, with a UID of 0 reserved for the root or superuser account.
