A search engine system for the Gopher protocol, an early internet information distribution system that predated the World Wide Web. It provided a keyword-based search of most Gopher server menu titles in the entire Gopherspace, creating a browsable index of resources. The name is a backronym for Very Easy Rodent-Oriented Net-wide Index to Computerized Archives, chosen to complement the name of the Archie search service.
