A graphical control element in a graphical user interface (GUI) that displays information or provides a specific way for a user to interact with an application or operating system. Common examples include buttons, scroll bars, text boxes, and checkboxes, which are combined to build an application's interface. In another sense, a widget is a small, standalone application that can be embedded into a home screen, webpage, or desktop, providing quick access to information like weather forecasts or news headlines.
