1. Prevention of damage to, protection of, and restoration of computers, electronic communications systems, electronic communications services, wire communication, and electronic communication, including information contained therein, to ensure its availability, integrity, authentication, confidentiality, and nonrepudiation.
Note: The term cybersecurity replaced the term information assurance (IA) in the DoD and most USG policy documents in 2014. The term information assurance, in turn, previously replaced the terms information security and computer security in the same way. However, the terms information security and computer security are still used in the USG and elsewhere depending on scope and intent.

2. The process of protecting information by preventing, detecting, and responding to attacks.

3. The prevention of damage to, protection of, and restoration of computers, electronic communications systems, electronic communications services, wire communication, and electronic communication, including information contained therein, to ensure its availability, integrity, authentication, confidentiality, and non-repudiation.

4. Prevention of damage to, protection of, and restoration of computers, electronic communications systems, electronic communications services, wire communication, and electronic communication, including information contained therein, to ensure its availability, integrity, authentication, confidentiality, and nonrepudiation. For example, PNT data is generated by cyber systems. Protection of the devices and systems used to generate PNT data should be considered part of cybersecurity.
