An abbreviation for Chip Select, a control signal in digital electronics that enables or disables a specific integrated circuit (chip) in a system with multiple chips sharing the same data and address buses. When the chip select line is active, the chip responds to other control signals; otherwise, it ignores them. This mechanism prevents conflicts when multiple devices attempt to communicate simultaneously.
