Chip

A small piece of semiconductor material, typically silicon, on which an integrated circuit is fabricated. It contains thousands to billions of microscopic transistors and other electronic components interconnected to perform specific functions. These chips are encapsulated in protective packages with external pins for connection to other circuits, forming the core of modern electronic devices.
