VLSI
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-006467
The process of creating an integrated circuit by combining millions or billions of transistors onto a single chip, an abbreviation for Very Large Scale Integration. This advanced level of miniaturization followed large-scale integration (LSI) and is the primary technology behind microprocessors, memory chips, and other complex digital electronics. The threshold for VLSI is considered to be the integration of over 100,000 transistors, though modern devices far exceed this number, reaching into the tens of billions.
