1. A cryptographic key that is used with a PKE in order to encrypt plaintexts into ciphertexts. The encryption key can be made public.
2. The cryptographic key used to encrypt a payload. In asymmetric cryptography, the encryption key refers to the public key of the cryptographic key pair. In symmetric cryptography, the encryption key is the symmetric key.
