1. A mailbox access protocol defined by IETF RFC 1939. POP is one of the most commonly used mailbox access protocols.

2. A verification process whereby assurance is obtained that the owner of a key pair actually has the private key associated with the public key.

3. A standard protocol used to receive electronic mail from a server.
