relying party
Term · Cybersecurity · MLC-T-CYB-003524
1. An entity that relies on the validity of the binding of the Subscriber's name to a public key to verify or establish the identity and status of an individual, role, or system or device; the integrity of a digitally signed message; the identity of the creator of a message; or confidential communications with the Subscriber.
2. An entity that relies upon the subscriber’s authenticator(s) and credentials or a verifier’s assertion of a claimant’s identity, typically to process a transaction or grant access to information or a system.
3. A party that depends on the validity of the digital signature process.
4. In this Recommendation, a party that relies on the security and authenticity of a key or key pair for applying cryptographic protection and removing or verifying the protection that has been applied. This includes parties relying on the public key in a public key certificate and parties that share a symmetric key.
5. An entity that relies on the certificate and the CA that issued the certificate to verify the identity of the certificate's subject and/or owner; the validity of the public key, associated algorithms and any relevant parameters; and the subject’s possession of the corresponding private key.
6. An entity that relies on the certificate and the CA that issued the certificate to verify the identity of the certificate owner and the validity of the public key, associated algorithms, and any relevant parameters in the certificate, as well as the owner’s possession of the corresponding private key.
7. A party that relies on the security and authenticity of a key or key pair for applying cryptographic protection and/or removing or verifying the protection that has been applied. This includes parties relying on the public key in a public key certificate and parties that share a symmetric key.
8. An entity that relies upon the subscriber’s credentials, typically to process a transaction or grant access to information or a system.
9. An entity that relies on a verifier’s assertion of a subscriber’s identity, typically to process a transaction or grant access to information or a system.
