Principle of keeping data provided by a respondent private.
Note: The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) collects data for statistical purposes only, and consequently, it cannot provide specific information.
The guarantee made by law (Title 13, United States Code) to individuals who provide census information regarding nondisclosure of that information to others. By law, we cannot disclose any private information that identifies a person or a business.
If we violate this law, it is a federal crime; we face severe penalties, including a federal prison sentence of up to five years, a fine of up to $250,000, or both.
