Island areas
Term · Economic statistics · MLC-T-ECS-001002
The Island Areas of the United States are American Samoa, Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), and the U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI). The Census Bureau treats the Island Areas as entities that are statistically equivalent to states for data presentation purposes; data for the Island Areas, however, are presented separately from data for the United States and Puerto Rico. For the 1990 census and previous censuses, the Census Bureau referred to the entities as "outlying areas."
