Secondary family

As defined by the American Housing Survey, a secondary family is a group of two or more people who are related to each other by birth (parent/child, child less than 18 years old), marriage, or adoption, but who are not related to the householder or co-owner or co-renter. The unrelated secondary family may include people such as guests, roomers, boarders, or resident employees and their relatives living in a household.
