Type of institution

Term · Economic statistics · MLC-T-ECS-001995

Institutions are those facilities designed for group quarters living. These facilities are either institutional group quarters that house the institutionalized population (for example, prisons or nursing homes) or noninstitutional facilities that house the noninstitutionalized population (for example, student or military housing). Persons in institutional group quarters are primarily ineligible, unable, or unlikely to participate in the labor force while residents. The opposite is true for persons in noninstitutionalized group quarters as they are primarily eligible, able or likely to participate in the labor force.
