Gross end-use energy consumption

Aggregated energy consumption across all fuels within the commercial or residential sectors regardless of generation source, as consumed. Includes purchased electricity from grid sources and small-scale solar photovoltaic generation (such as from rooftop solar panels or from third-party operators) consumed on-site. Also includes purchased fuels such as natural gas, propane, and fuel oil. Excludes non-marketed energy (such as small-scale solar thermal heat, geothermal heat, and wood from your backyard) as well as any energy losses during production, transmission, and distribution.
