Acute radiation syndrome

The effects on a whole organism from large doses of ionizing radiation over a short amount of time. Human level data on ARS stems from experiences in radiation therapy; studies of the Japanese survivors of the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki; and the victims of the limited number of accidents at nuclear installations, including Chernobyl.
