Adiabatic process
Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-000512
1. A thermodynamic change of state of a system such that no heat or mass is transferred across the boundaries of the system. In an adiabatic process, expansion always results in cooling, and compression in warming.
2. Thermodynamic change of state of a system such that no heat or mass is transferred across the boundaries of the system. In an adiabatic process, expansion always results in cooling, and compression in warming.
3. A process that takes place without a transfer of heat between the system (e.g., an air parcel) and its surroundings. In an adiabatic process, compression always results in warming, and expansion results in cooling.
4. The change of temperature of air without transferring heat. In an adiabatic process compression results in warming, and expansion results in cooling.
