Amitosis

An unusual form of cell division in which the nucleus cleaves without change in its component structure (such as the formation of chromosomes), followed by the division of the cytoplasm. Amitosis may occur chiefly in highly specialized cells which are incapable of longcontinued multiplication, in transitory structures, and in early stages of degeneration.
