1. Brown asbestos
2. A magnesium-iron-manganese-lithium amphibole mineral in the cummingtonite-grunerite solid solution series that occurs in the asbestiform habit. The name amosite is a commercial term derived from the acronym for "Asbestos Mines of South Africa." Amosite is sometimes referred to as "brown asbestos."
