Biogenic deep coral reef
Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-003189
Persistent structures, formed by deepwater corals, whose growth exceeds (bio) erosion. These reefs result in local topographic highs that alter hydrodynamic and sedimentary regimes. The actual reef structure remains, often with the growing reefs on their crest or side. The coral thickets and skeletal remains trap sediments, contributing to the accretion of the reef.
