Buffer Zone

1. An area between two different land uses that is intended to resist, absorb, or otherwise preclude developments or intrusions between the two use areas.

2. A portion of the disposal site that is controlled by the licensee and that lies under the disposal units and between the disposal units and the boundary of the site. (10 CFR 61.2)

3. A designated area around a stream or waterbody of sufficient width to minimize entrance of forestry chemicals (fertilizers, pesticides, and fire retardants) into the waterbody.
