Cellulosic biofuel
Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-004492
1. Refers to the process of creating ethanol with a wide variety of feedstocks (corn stover, cereal straws, sawdust, paper pulp) with high contents of cellulose (chief part of the cell walls of plants). The cellulose must be converted from complex carbohydrates into simple sugars as part of the process of creating biofuel.
2. Renewable fuel derived from any cellulose, hemi-cellulose, or lignin that has lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions that are at least 60 percent less than the baseline lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions.
