Chlorophyll

  1. A chemical mixture or compound found in the chloroplasts of plant cells and gives plants their green color. Plants use chlorophyll to convert the energy of sunlight to food in the process known as photosynthesis.

  2. Porphyrin derivatives containing magnesium that act to convert light energy in photosynthetic organisms.
