1. Large cellular organelle that contains chlorophyll, consists of a complex lammelar system of membranes, and functions as the site of photosynthesis in green algae and green plant cells.
2. An organelle in the cells of green plants. It contains chlorophyll and functions in photosynthesis and protein synthesis.
