1. A collaborative approach to research that equitably involves all partners in the research process and recognizes the unique strengths that each brings for the purpose of combining knowledge with action and achieving social change.

2. Applied collaborative approach that enables community residents to actively engage in the full range of research. The research process moves from conception to design to conduct to analysis to interpretation and finally, to conclusions. Community members and researchers form equal partnerships to combine knowledge and action to improve the community’s health and environment.
