Compression Molding
Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-005997
Compression molding is a common method for forming thermosets and is rarely used for thermoplastics, except with a few specialized processes. In compression molding, a premixed plastic mixture or preformed plastic part is placed in an open mold cavity. As the heated mold is closed, the plastic mixture spreads throughout the mold. The mixture in the mold is pressurized and heated until it undergoes a chemical change that hardens the mixture into the desired shape.
