Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-006632

1. A structure that helps remove heat from water used as a coolant; e.g., in electric power generating plants.

2. Device which dissipates the heat from water-cooled systems by spraying the water through streams of rapidly moving air.

3. Heat removal device used to remove the heat absorbed in circulating cooling water systems by transferring the heat to the atmosphere using natural or mechanical draft.

4. Open water recirculating device that uses fans or natural draft to draw or force ambient air through the device to cool warm water by direct contact. [40 CFR 749.68 (CFR 2013)]
