Critical Path

A plan that lays out which Research Projects and Research Tasks must be conducted to answer the Science Question. [Task Force 2010] Research Projects and Research Tasks that lay on the critical path have the least amount of scheduling flexibility (i.e., are the most mission-critical) and cannot be delayed without delaying the entire Research Project.
