Deconstruction

1. The careful and systematic dismantling of a building structure to maximize the recovery of valuable building materials. Deconstruction is an environmentally friendly alternative to demolition, which produces large quantities of debris requiring disposal.

2. Process of carefully taking apart constructed elements with the intention of either reusing or recycling the materials and is accomplished during redevelopment, adaptation, or at the end of use on a site.
